Canadian costume designer Nancy Bryant made her Royal Ballet debut in the 2016/17 Season on Crystal Pite’s Flight Pattern.
Bryant studied at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver. She works widely as a designer in dance, theatre, opera and television. Bryant’s previous collaborations with Pite have included Parade and Plot Point (Nederlands Dans Theater), The Tempest Replica (Kidd Pivot), Betroffenheit (Kidd Pivot/Electric Company Theatre) and The Seasons’ Canon (Paris Opera Ballet). Other dance work includes designs for Les Ballet de Monte-Carlo, Stuttgart Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Ballet British Columbia, Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada. Bryant’s costume designs for theatre include collaborations with artists and directors Stan Douglas (Helen Lawrence), Morris Panych (The Overcoat and numerous other productions) and Kim Collier (Tear the Curtain! and many others). She has designed for theatres in Toronto for more than twenty-five years, as well as for companies across Canada including the Shaw Festival and Canadian Stage. Her opera credits include Sweeney Todd and The Threepenny Opera (Vancouver Opera) and Das Rheingold, Der fliegende Holländer, Rodelinda and The Rake’s Progress (Pacific Opera Victoria). Television credits include Legend of Earthsea, A Wrinkle in Time, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The Mermaid Chair, The Snow Queen and Snow White.
Her many awards include numerous Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards, a Leo Award and the Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Award.
