musicAeterna was founded in 2004 in Novosibirsk by Teodor Currentzis and has been the resident orchestra at the Perm Opera since 2011. The orchestra performs regularly in Perm, as well as throughout Russia and abroad, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Vienna, Paris, London, Berlin, Hamburg, Baden-Baden, Munich, Manheim, Dortmund, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Helsinki, and Brussels.

The orchestra’s repertoire embraces various styles and historical periods, from the Baroque to world premieres of contemporary works commissioned by Teodor Currentzis.

musicAeterna has an exclusive recording contract with Sony Classical. Releases since 2012 include Mozart’s ‘Le nozze di Figaro’, which won the German Record Critics' Prize and the ECHO Klassik Award for ‘Best recording of the year’, ‘Cosi fan tutte’, which was named ‘Best recording of the year’ by Opernwelt Magazine, and ‘Don Giovanni’. The orchestra has also recorded ‘Rameau: The Sound of Light’, Stravinsky's ‘Le Sacre du printemps’, which won ECHO Klassik Award for ‘Best recording of the year: 19th and 20th-centures symphonic music’, Les noces’, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto (soloist – Patricia Kopatchinskaja) and Sixth Symphony ‘Pathetique’, which was awarded the Diapason d’Or and Edison Klassiek Award 2018, and Mahler’s Sixth Symphony.

musicAeterna is regularly invited to perform at leading international festivals including the RUHRtriennale, the Klara Festival in Brussels, the ‘Golden Mask’ Festival in Moscow, the Diaghilev Festival in Perm, and the Festival in Aix-en-Provence.

musicAeterna’s made its debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2017 with Mozart’s ‘La clemenza di Tito’, directed by Peter Sellars, as well as performing the Mozart’s Requiem, Mahler’s First Symphony and Berg’s Violin Concerto. Following last year’s complete Beethoven cycle, the orchestra will return to the festival in 2020 and 2021.
