Italian bass Mirco Palazzi makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as Assur (Semiramide).
Palazzi grew up in Rimini, and studied singing at the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro under Robleto Merolla. As a student, he won multiple prizes (including First Prize) in the Riccardo Zandonai Competition, along with other competition successes. He made his professional debut as Don Giovanni (Riva del Garda). Since then, he has appeared throughout Europe and beyond, including for the Liceu, Barcelona, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Royal Danish Opera, Opéra de Bordeaux, Opéra de Marseille, Rome Opera, La Scala, Milan, Teatro Regio, Turin, Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, and Teatro Regio di Parma. He has also appeared for festivals including the BBC Proms, Arena di Verona, Maggio Musicale, Florence, and the Wildbad, Edinburgh and Wexford Festivals. His repertory includes Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Don Giovanni and Leporello (Don Giovanni), Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Maometto II, Lord Sidney (Il viaggio a Reims), Assur, Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Alfonso (Lucrezia Borgia), Giorgio Talbot (Maria Stuarda), Enrico VIII (Anna Bolena), Sir Giorgio (I puritani), Count Rodolfo (La sonnambula), Roger (Jérusalem) and Banquo (Macbeth).
Palazzi also appears widely in concert (including at La Scala, the Barbican, the Leipzig Gewandhaus and Amsterdam Concertgebouw) in repertory including Mozart’s Requiem, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Petite Messe Solennelle and Verdi’s Messa da Requiem. He has sung in several recitals for London’s Rosenblatt series.
