About
Michael George (Mike) Boddé (Rotterdam, January 14, 1968) is a Dutch pianist and former comedian and voice simulator.
When Boddé was nineteen, he traveled to the United States to learn how to play jazz. After returning to his birthplace of Rotterdam, he went to the conservatory and then studied Chinese in Leiden. After this study he started making cabaret together with fellow student Thomas van Luyn. They won the Groninger Studenten Cabaret Festival in 1991 and then the Amsterdam Kleinkunst Festival. They continued as Ajuinen and Look, but due to severe depression Boddé was unable to perform for a few years. He then returned as a solo artist. Boddé wrote the book Pil about his depression.
Boddé became known to the general public for his performance in the Dutch television program Kopspijkers, broadcast by the VARA. In addition to the bartender without a name with a ponytail and a Rotterdam tongue, he imitated Henk van Dorp, Billy Joel, René Froger, André Hazes, Saddam Hussein, Ferry Hoogendijk, Hans Liberg, Hilbrand Nawijn, Harry Mens and Mohammed Saïd al-Sahaf, among others. He also wrote the tunes for the Kopspijkers parody BZN in Baghdad. After Jack Spijkerman switched to Talpa in 2005, Boddé moved to Spijkerman's comparable program at that channel, called Koppensnellers. Boddé was the musical accompanist for strange instruments and imitator of, for example, Ivo Opstelten.
Boddé and Van Luyn made a weekly entertainment quiz from 2005 to 2010, The Mike & Thomas Show, later under the name De Mega Mike & Mega Thomas Show. This VARA show received the Sound and Vision Award in 2007 in the Entertainment category. In January 2007, Boddé released two CDs simultaneously: Het Land, with the same title as one of his cabaret programs, and Drift. In December 2008 he started a new song program in collaboration with actress Hadewych Minis: Happy with Hadewych and Mike. And in 2010 he played a few roles in Van Zon op Zaterdag.
In 2016, Boddé announced that he is withdrawing from the cabaret world, and will only focus on making music.
