Miami native, Michelle Mercedes began her training with Linda Rogers Albritton, The DanceXchange, a small studio in North Miami. She furthered her training at New World School of the Arts High School under the direction of Dean Daniel Lewis. While at New World she performed works by Martha Graham, George Balanchine, Rebecca Cannan, Gerard Ebitz, Josee Garant, Martha Graham, Peter London, and Lara Murphy.
She graduated from the Florida State University with a B.F.A. in Dance in 2013. At FSU she worked closely with and performed works by Anjali Austin, Daniel Clifton, Michael Foley, Tim Glenn, Gerri Houlihan, Alex Ketley, Rick McCullough, Dan Wagoner, and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar. During her time at the Florida State University she was also able to study technologies in dance, focusing on dance film and editing for dance film.
Shortly after graduating, Michelle moved to New York City to pursue her career as a professional dancer. While in New York she has apprenticed and performed with both Urban Bush Women and JKing Dance. She was also a company member with Sleep No More, J$ & Kump, Forces of Nature Dance Theatre, and Jacqueline Dugal/ Dugal Dance Projects. She participated in the Spring 2018 Cycle of Broadway Dance Lab with Josh Prince, Ray Mercer, Loni Landon, Robbie Fairchild, and Brooke Wendle. She was member of the ensemble in Mary Poppins, Crazy For You, and Footloose for the 2018 season at the Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre in Arrow Rock, Missouri. She was also a female dance cover for Samson et Dalilia at the Metropolitan Opera during their 2018-2019 Season. Most recently she was cast as a jet girl in the developmental lab for the revival of West Side Story with choreographer, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, and director, Ivo Van Hove.
