Michelangelo Mercuri (double bass), was born in Como. He graduated from the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory in Milan. At nineteen he won the audition as the first double bass of the Italian Youth Orchestra (ogi), and was also part of the European Union Youth Orchestra (euyo). Perfected with Alberto Bocini, Franco Petracchi and Klaus Stoll, he also participated in the Mahler Academy courses.
Michelangelo Mercuri has collaborated with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan, the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the National Symphony Orchestra of the Turin Rai, thus having work with directors such as Claudio Abbado, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniel Barenboim, Sir Colin Davis, Daniele Gatti, Valery Gergiev, Antonio Pappano, and many others.
Since 2009 he is first double bass of the Haydn Orchestra. Simultaneously with his work in the orchestra, Michelangelo Mercuri carries out regular chamber music activity in quintet, quartet and trio in Italy and abroad, devoting himself also to the contemporary repertoire and popular music.
