Michael Davis received his BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, studying with Nancy Goeres and Phil Pandolfi.
After briefly pursuing a master's degree at Southern Methodist University with Will Roberts, he began his professional career with the Kansas City Symphony, spending nine seasons there as Associate Principal Bassoon and Contrabassoon. After a sabbatical spent freelancing in Chicago, he was invited to serve as Acting Second Bassoon for two seasons with the MET Orchestra, and subsequently remained in New York City to freelance. Since 2003 he has spent his summers as contrabassoonist of the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago.
