Michael graduated with First Class Honours from the Australian National University, and was subsequently immediately accepted on scholarship to 2 years full-time practical performance training at the Australian Opera Studio, Perth.
Michael has performed Amonasro (Aida), for which he received a nomination for a Green Room Award for Best Male in a Supporting Role, Escamillo (Carmen), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Ford (Falstaff), Di Luna (Il Trovatore) and New Year’s Eve Gala for Opera Australia, and has also worked with West Australian Opera and State Opera of South Australia. In 2015 his engagements will include performing the roles of Sharpless and Amonasro for Opera Australia. Michael will also add the role of Giorgio Germont ( La Traviata) to his repertoire.
Michael is equally at home on the concert platform where he has performed in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony as part of the 40th birthday celebrations of the Sydney Opera House, Mozart Requiem and Mass in C Minor, Handel Messiah, Rachmaninov Vespers, and recitals for ArtSong Perth and ABC FM radio. In 2013 Michael was awarded the Australian Opera Auditions Committee Dame Joan Sutherland Scholarship, which enabled him to travel to New York, receiving instruction from leading opera conductors, teachers and coaches, among them, those working at The Metropolitan Opera.
