Michael Colvin has dual nationality – Irish and Canadian. He has sung at all the major opera houses in Canada, the United States and Europe. He has recently interpreted the title role in Peter Grimes and Goro in Madam Butterfly at English National Opera, made his Covent Garden debut as Rodolphe in William Tell and sung Jaquino in Fidelio with Le Cercle de l’Harmonie in Paris and Brussels, Herod in Salome in Belfast, Dr Caius in Falstaff with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, the Pilot in Der Fliegende Holländer with Pacific Opera Victoria and Narraboth in Salome in Manitoba. 

This season he makes his debut at Amsterdam National Opera in the role of the Aumönier in Dialogues des Carmelites and he has been invited back to Toronto for Don Basilio in Marriage of Figaro. He has been particularly acclaimed as an interpreter of Benjamin Britten: Bob Boles in Peter Grimes with English National Opera, Oviedo Opera, Flanders Opera and the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Jurowski at the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome and by Sir Antonio Pappano; Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Red Whiskers in Billy Budd, Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucrece and Mayor Upfold in Albert Herring. In the course of previous seasons, he has performed the roles of Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Rodrigo (La Donna del lago), Almaviva (The Barber if Seville) and Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail). He has also sung the role of Don Ottavio in the film Don Giovanni Unmasked alongside Dmitri Hvorostovsky. Michael Colvin also performs in concert: (Missa Solemnis by Beethoven, Das Lied von der Erde, Handel’s The Messiah, The Creation by Haydn, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, The Dream of Gerontius by Elgar, Serenade by Britten, Requiem by Verdi, Liebeslieder Walzer by Brahms, Die Schöne Müllerin by Schubert etc.).
