Studied church music at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen (organ with Gerd Zacher) and musicology at the Ruhr University Bochum (completing his doctorate with a dissertation on the concerti and sonatas of Johann Sebastian Bach).
He teaches at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, at the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media in Düsseldorf and at the Rostock University of Music and Drama, has published studies on organ music in the 19th and 20th centuries and was the editor along with Hermann J. Busch of the Lexikon der Orgel [Dictionary of the Organ] (Laaber 2007). As an organist and improviser, he works on a regular basis with the actress Maria Neumann (Theater an der Ruhr, Mülheim), the dancer and choreographer Henrietta Horn (Essen), the dancer and choreographer Felix Bürkle (Düsseldorf) as well as with the E-MEX Ensemble. He also has a special focus on new repertoire for the organ, having premiered numerous new pieces — many of which have been recorded for broadcast by the WDR and DLR.
