MARTIN Funda was born in 1985 in Gera, and received his first violin lessons at the age of five.
From 1999-2005 he was schooled at the specialist Music School "Schloss Belvedere" in Weimar and was junior student at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music under Anne-Kathrin Lindig. Since 2005, he has been studying with Nora Chastain at the University of the Arts in Berlin and is currently preparing for his Konzertexam. Martin has taken masterclasses with Stephan Picard, Siegfried Palm, Thomas Brandis, Ulf Hölscher, Antje Weithaas, Norbert Brainin, Kolja Blacher and Donald Weilerstein.He won multiple awards in the "Young Musician" contests, the 3rd Prize in the Brahms Competition in Pörtschach and has been awarded grants from the Ministry of Science, Research and Art of Thuringia and the Paul-Hindemith-Society, Berlin.
He was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and is graduate of the Academy Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He substitutes regularly with the Berlin Philharmonic and the Staatskapelle Berlin.
Martin has been a member of the Armida Quartett since 2006.
