About
Martin Eidenberger was born in Linz, Austria. He first studied civil engineering and architecture before devoting himself, from 2002 to 2006, to the multimedia arts (specialization in film and video) at the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg. He moved to Berlin, where he lives since. Upon graduation in 2006, he began working as an assistant stage designer in Berlin, notably with Jan Pappelbaum and Katrin Brack at Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz. In 2008, he established himself as an independent artist and collaborated on numerous theatrical and lyric productions as both a stage designer and a videographer.
His successful collaboration with director Aureliusz Smigiel has resulted in four productions: The Waste Land at the Eigenreich Theater in Berlin, Eine Odyssee at the University of the Arts (UdK) Berlin, Krieger im Gelee at the Kasematten Theater in Luxembourg and Kurze Interviews mit fiesen Männern by David Foster Wallace at the Municipal Theater in Bielefeld. On the other hand, in tandem with the set designer Christof Hetzer, he directed many videos for operas such as Le Turc en Italie at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam directed by David Hermann, Gisela! at the Ruhrtriennale and Dionysos at the Salzburg Festival (staged by Pierre Audi), The Ghost Ship at the Bayreuth Festival (directed by Jan Philipp Gloger), Gurrelieder at the Amsterdam Opera (Pierre Audi), L ' Makropoulos case at the Berlin Deutsche Oper (directed by David Hermann).
