Markus Schön, born in Lage, has been principal clarinetist of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich since 2003 and since 2013 also professor of brass chamber music at the University of Music in Graz. 

From 2015 to 2016 he held a professorship for clarinet at Folkwang University Essen. Early on he became a member of the Federal Youth Orchestra and then of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. After studying with Hans-Dietrich Klaus, Hans Deinzer and Eduard Brunner, he has performed in the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. This was followed by engagements in the symphony orchestras of the Bavarian and North German Radio, the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin, the Munich Philharmonic and the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam. As a soloist he has appeared with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonia and the Bavarian State Orchestra under Zubin Mehta and Kent Nagano. In addition, he is interested in chamber music and new music; For example, he was part of the ensemble recherche, the Klangforum Heidelberg and the Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin. Since 2005 he has devoted himself to playing on historical clarinets; Fortepiano player Christoph Hammer has been working with him for many years. Markus Schön won first prize at the Mendelssohn Competition in Berlin in 1999, twice the German Music Council included him in his series "Concerts of Young Artists". Many German broadcasters engaged him for solo and chamber music productions.
