About

The Dutch tenor Mark Omvlee studied with Hein Meens at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and graduated in 2003. He received coachings from Gemma Visser, Marcel Reijans and Miranda van Kralingen. His first successes on the opera stage include performances with Holland Opera and later at Opera Zuid, where he made his debut singing the title role of Stravinsky’s Mavra in 2006.

In recent years, he has performed on several occasions as a guest opera soloist at the Dutch National Opera, appearing in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites, among other productions. He has also sung Monostatos in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques in a number of French cities, and Jack, the leading role in Charles Wuorinen’s Brokeback Mountain, in Aachen and Salzburg.

As a concert singer, Omvlee has collaborated in a number of NTR Saturday Matinee opera performances in concert version, as well as performances of Bach’s Passions, Wolfgang Rihm’s oratorio Deus Passus, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde and Britten’s cantata Saint Nicolas.

His first performances with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra were in June and July 2017, when he sang the part of one of the five Jews in Richard Strauss’s Salome under the direction of Daniele Gatti at the Dutch National Opera.
