About
Born into a musically gifted family, Marjukka Tepponen began her musical education on the piano at the age of five.In 2000 she enrolled in vocal studies at the Conservatory in Kuopio and from 2003 on at the University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä. Afterwards she completed her studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Marjut Hannula and in Vienna with Hilde Zadek.
Winner of several prestigious singing competitions, Marjukka Tepponen has been a finalist at the International Mirjam Helin Competition in Helsinki in 2009, and was awarded the first prize in the National Lappeenranta Singing Competition in January 2010.
Ms.Tepponen is a regular guest at the Finnish National Opera, where in the past she performed such roles as Frasquita / Carmen, Zerlina / Don Giovanni, Julietta / Die Tote Stadt, Lauretta / Gianni Schicchi and Corinna/ Il viaggio a Reims. She also made her role debut as Violetta / La Traviata at the Jyväskylä Opera and as Pamina / Die Zauberflöte at the Tampere Opera.
During the season 2010-2011, Ms.Tepponen made quite a remarkable successful debut as Mimi / La Bohème in Graz. In 2011 she sang Zerlina in the new production of Don Giovanni at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, where she returned in 2012 both as Grande Sacerdotessa / Aida and as Pamina / Die Zauberflöte.
This season highlights included her role debut as Contessa / Nozze di Figaro in Turku (Finnland), a new production of Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna) at the Tampere Opera, Mimì / Bohème in Helsinki, her role debut as Donna Anna / Don Giovanni in Rijeka (Croatia) and concert engagements in Munich: „Sounds of Cinema“ with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester and Verdi Requiem with the Münchner Symphoniker.
Among her future plans are worth mentioning the world premiere of Indigo (leading role), opera by P. Kivilaakso & E. Toppinen, at the National Opera Helsinki, Turandot (Liù) in the new production of the Bregenzer Festspiele 2015 under the baton of Paolo Carignani and the release of her Aria Album (Mozart, bel canto and French Repertorie) with Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.
Marjukka Tepponen performed as a soloist with several Finnish orchestras and in solo recitals with Marita Viitasalo.
