Marie-Louise Bischofberger (born in the 20th century in Winterthur) is a Swiss dramaturge, librettist, choreographer and director. She has worked with director Luc Bondy since 1993.
Marie-Louise Bischofberger studied at the University of Zurich in Hispanic Studies, Literary Criticism and Anthropological Psychology. From 1993 she was a dramaturgical collaborator of Luc Bondy for numerous plays and operas, including Ibsen's John Gabriel Borkman at the Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne, L'Illusioniste and Faisons un rêve by Sacha Guitry at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin, Verdi's Don Carlos at the Théâtre du Châtelet and Yasmina Rezas Une Pièce espagnole at the Théâtre de la Madeleine in Paris. After collaborating on Philippe Boesmans' opera Reigen after Arthur Schnitzler at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, she was also a co-librettist with Bondy for three other operas by this composer: Winter's tale after Shakespeare (Théâtre de la Monnaie, Brussels and Opéra de Lyon, 1999) Julie after August Strindberg (Festival d'Aix-en-Provence 2005) and Yvonne, princesse de Bourgogne after Witold Gombrowicz (Opéra Garnier Paris, 2009). At La Scala in Milan in 2007 she took over the re-production of Bondy's Salome production, which was created in 1992 for the Salzburg Festival. In 2014, she supported Bondy at the premiere of Marc-André Dalbavie's opera Charlotte Salomon at the Salzburg Festival.
Marie-Louise Bischofberger created a ten-part radio drama version of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel The Junker of Ballantrae for the radio station France Culture and since 1997 also works as a director.
The artist was married to the theater director Luc Bondy (1948-2015) until his death. The marriage produced twins, a daughter and a son.
