Mariafrancesca Garritano (Cosenza, November 7, 1978) is an Italian dancer, in art Mary Garret.
At the age of two he began his classical dance studies in Cosenza. In 1996 he entered the ballet school of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he graduated in 1997. In the same year he received the Rotary award as "Best student of the year". In 1998 he joined the Ballet Company of the Teatro alla Scala, participating in all international theater productions and tours.
In 2010 he published a book "The truth, please, on the dance!" in which he describes, beyond the romantic and fairy-tale image of ballet dancers, the daily reality made of hard sacrifices and personal competition.
In 2011, in consideration of her artistic merits, she was nominated soloist dancer.
In February 2012 he gave an interview to the Observer in which he denounced the eating disorders of his female colleagues. For this reason, it is dismissed from the theater. Television interviews follow and the case reaches the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate of the Republic and the European Parliament. In October 2014, after about two years of legal litigation against dismissal, the Milan Court of Appeal established reinstatement in the Scala ballet. After the appeal to the Cassation by the theater, the supreme court confirmed the illegitimacy of the dismissal.
In October 2015 she was a lecturer at Artist Academy Talent Reality, a television academy for singers conceived and directed by Michael Zurino.
He is the testimonial of various associations against eating disorders.
