Maria Reiter comes from Upper Bavaria and discovered the accordion and reading at the age of five. Both proved to be momentous.
The most influential musical influences came from her teacher Enrique Ugarte, the Basque accordionist / conductor / arranger, from whom she took her accordion, and from Rudi Spring, the Munich composer / pianist / conductor, who also wrote many of her solo, Duo, trio and orchestra scores come.
In the trio formation Spring / Kirch / Reiter called "Cosi fan Tango" they received in 1995 the International Chamber Music Prize Dusseldorf.
She currently plays mainly musical-literary projects with the actors Stefan Wilkening, Michael Heltau, Michaela May, Senta Berger, Krista Posch, puppet theater Puppet Players and linguist and historian Gerald Huber.
Purely musical programs u.a. with Christian Gruber in a duo with guitar / accordion, with Monika Drasch in the duo "Aus Freindschaft" and with this in various other ensembles, eg. With Norbert Nagel, Salome Kammer, Christian Gruber, Alex Haas and others. For many years she has been a member of the Viennese theater musicians, who perform with Michael Heltau in celebrated productions not only in the Burgtheater. For several years they have been playing with actress Nicole Beutler and from 2016 with mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Kulman.
Another chamber music ensemble is the ensemble "nonSordino" (3 strings, 1 accordion), which presents large orchestral works in a small cast virtually in negligee.
