Marco Gemmani is a conductor, choir director and Italian composer, director of the musical chapel of San Marco in Venice.
He graduated in violin, composition and choral conducting at the Conservatory of Bologna.
In 1990 he took the chair of Choral Music and Choir Conducting at the "Benedetto Marcello" Conservatory in Venice, an institute where he held the post of deputy director. From 1991 to 2000 he was Maestro di cappella of the Cathedral of Rimini.
In March 2000 he was appointed by the Patriarch of Venice Card. Marco Cé Master of Chapel of the Basilica of San Marco in Venice, thus succeeding Maestro Roberto Micconi. This is the second director of the Marciana of Rimini origin, after the great Matteo Tosi, who managed the institution in the first half of the 20th century.
He is the author of numerous transcriptions and musicological research in the field of ancient vocal polyphony and more specifically on Venetian music. He has published two books on the Rimini composers Alessandro Grandi (1993) and Giovanni Piccioni (1995). In 1999 he published a critical edition with the complete transcription of the IV Book of Laudi of the Congregation of the Oratory by Francesco Soto. He has curated several exhibitions, one of which, in 1994, on Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.
