About

Italian lighting designer Marco Filibeck mafr his Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season on Norma, directed by Àlex Ollé.

Filibeck began his career working in rock concerts. After training as a theatre technician at the Teatro Comunale, Bologna, he went on to work for La Scala, Milan, and in 1996 became lighting designer there. Previous work with Ollé and La Fura dels Baus includes Madama Butterfly (Rome Opera), Quartett (La Scala), Il prigioniero / Erwartung (Lyon Opera) and Pelléas et Mélisande (Dresden). Other opera credits include Aida and La bohème directed by Franco Zeffirelli, Wozzeck directed by Jürgen Flimm, Così fan tuttedirected by Claus Guth, Madama Butterfly directed by Damiano Michieletto, ll trovatoredirected by Hugo de Ana, Oberto, conte di San Bonifacio directed by Mario Martone, Fidelio directed by Gary Hill, Un ballo in mascheraIl viaggio a Reims and Simon Boccanegra directed by Marco Gandini, Der Rosenkavalier directed by Herbert Wernicke, Le Cid directed by Guy Joosten, Simon Boccanegra directed by Federico Tiezzi, and La gazza ladra, directed by Gabriele Salvatores.

Filibeck’s work in ballet includes La SylphideRaymondaOndine, Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet and Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote for La Scala, George Balanchine’s Coppélia in Dresden and numerous galas for Roberto Bolle and Friends.

1980

 First works are in the Rock Show as a light console operator and light designer. In 5 years, up until 1984, he creates more than 200 live concerts with Vasco Rossi, the "Ci vuole orecchio" tour of Enzo Jannacci and Loredana Bertè's "E la luna bussò".

1985

After obtaining a diploma as a Theatre Technician at the Comunal Theatre of Bologna, in 1985 Filibeck starts to work at Teatro Alla Scala of Milan.

1996

 From 1996 he becomes a light designer at Teatro Alla Scala and collaborates with major international directors and coreographers.

1998

He starts his career as a theatre light designer

1999

From 1999 he teaches illuminating engineering in courses for "Lighting Design", "Scenography", "Theatre Direction", organized by the "Academy of Arts" of Teatro alla Scala, and a specialization course "Master in Lighting Design" at the Brera Academy of Milan (Accademia di Brera) and the Politecnico University of Milan.

2009

 In 2009 it is responsible for Lighting at Teatro Alla Scala.
