Lukáš Sommer is a prominent figure in the young generation of composers. He graduated from the Conservatory in České Budějovice, Prague Conservatory and HAMU. She devotes herself fully to her own creation and concert activities.
Lukáš Sommer is the author of important orchestral compositions which have been successfully performed in the Czech Republic and abroad (Concert for Harp and Orchestra, Spines in Veil - cantata on lyrics by Bohuslav Reynek, Letter to Father - Concert for Flute and Orchestra, Judith - Organ Symphony and String Orchestra etc.). His work is focused on chamber music, often commissioned by leading artists such as the Epoque Quartet, the Sedláček Quartet, the Prague Guitar Quartet or the Virginia Tech Percussion Ensemble (2 string quartets, Chicago steps - guitar quartet, Flute and Piano Sonata, Dances and Gloom - oboe quintet). Since 2015, Sommer has created several large vocal compositions to order opera and vocal ensembles - Prague Singers, Prague Philharmonic Choir, Opera Studio Prague, Opera Diversa (Magazine - Opera / Comic, Alchemist - Mixed Chorus and Ensemble Story, Missa Brevis, Sinbad - children's musical).
He wrote his compositions to order Prague Festivals (Letter to Father - Concert for Flute and Orchestra), Opera Barga (Piano for Piano), Festival delle Nazioni (Two Days in Delhi), Concerto Bohemia (Monolith - Concert for Wind Orchestra and Percussion Instruments) , Concentus Moraviae (Coffee with Ennio M.), Chicago Latin American Festival (Travel diary for guitar solo), Music Znojmo (Concerto Moraviae for violin and orchestra) and others.
He collaborates with leading Czech and international artists such as British conductor and oboist Sir Nicholas Daniel, French flutist Carlo Jans, British-Australian conductor Jessica Cottis, director of the brass section at Colorado State University Rebecca Phillips, pianist Gaia Sokoli and others. Czech artists include violinist Pavel Šporcl, harpist Jana Boušková, oboist Vilém Veverka. As a composer he has worked with the Košice Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, the Cameristi di Fiorentina, the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonia, the Sedunum String Orchestra, and Civitas Ensemble, Solaris 3, Colorado Chamber Winds, C'mon Ensemble, Epoque Quartet.
His work is based on the tradition of the European composing school, which is enriched with the ingredients of unconventional compositional techniques. He likes to go beyond the classics and try to combine the influences of ethnic, jazz and classical music. He likes to be influenced by the “mood” of the audience and always creates the concert program as a comprehensive experience according to the location, often with elements of improvisation and dialogue with the audience.
In 2017 his song La fine del tempo (End of Time) won the first prize in the international composing competition Concorso Novaro.
In 2018, he commissioned the Vize 97 Foundation to write the opera Time Lapse to mark the 100th anniversary of the independent state. His composition, commissioned by Pavel Šporcl Gala Violin, was nominated in the Contemporary Song of the Year category at the Classic Prague Awards.
He is a music arranger, founder and managing director of the Tone.Point arranging division, with which he has implemented some international commercial projects for the American, Japanese and German markets. The domain of the group is full-length orchestral projects in the field of pop and film music.
His original guitar recital, which he has presented since 2012 on many stages in the Czech Republic and abroad, is a completely distinctive line of Sommer's work. Songs are often inspired by specific places (Por caminos de Sagunto, Savannah, Travel Diary - Guitar Cycle), poetry of contemporary poets (Windless, Regina Coeli, Were We?) And personal life (Don't Leave Me…, Lullaby for Tyši, Second Letter to Father) ). Sommer regularly performs at festivals in Chicago, New York, New Delhi, Nuremberg, Milan, Florence, Manila, etc. For his genre readiness, Sommer is often invited to improvisation projects with elements of theater, pantomime and music therapy.
In 2014, William Recording released Sommer's author's album Savana !, which is also a tribute to Czech guitar manufacturers. As the only classical guitar album, it presents several different instruments and creates a unique probe into the sounds of Czech guitars.
In 2019, Barenreitr published his textbook “I want to be a guitarist”. The book is based on open approach and the creativity of children, who can often complete the composition, decide on its end, rhythm and melody.
