About

LUIS ROBISCO was born in Caldes de Montbui (Barcelona) in 1972. Self-taught at the beginning, he began his studies in 1987 with Professor RAFEL SALA with whom he continues until 1993. He continues his training from that moment and until 1997 with Professor MANUEL GONZÁLEZ in the 'Center of Musical Arts LUTHIER' in Barcelona and receives master classes from CARLES TREPAT. At the same time he begins to study with the teacher MANUEL GRANADOS at the ‘Higher Conservatory of Music of the Liceo’ in Barcelona, and is perfected in the ‘Music Workshop’ with the guitarist CHICUELO. During this period, he develops training courses with teachers such as DAVID RUSSEL, HOPKINSON SMITH, JOSÉ LUIS GONZÁLEZ, JOSÉ TOMÁS and XAVIER COLL.

In September 1992, he won the first prize in the 2nd Young Guitar Interpreters Contest in Catalonia. He is also a finalist and Honorable Mention in the 2nd Vila de Salou Contest in September 1994. Special prize for the best performer born in Catalonia in the X National Flamenco Guitar Competition City of L'Hospitalet in October 1995. Winner of the contest 'Molt soroll per no res' for formations with acoustic instrumentation, in which he presented the embryo of what is now his music.

In 1995 he is part of the QUARTET BARCELONA guitar quartet, in which as a soloist he is accompanied by the EUROPEAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA directed by CHRISTIAN FLOREA. He is a solo guitarist of the LOS MANOLOS formation from 1995 to 1999, having included in his record ‘Robando Gallinas’ his own composition, with the title ‘Continued’. This theme would be selected as the closing tune of the ‘Continuing’ program of TVE2 de Catalunya.

The production company ROD’S MUSIC commissioned the task of paying tribute to CAMARÓN DE LA ISLA at the end of 1997, versioning its themes. This work is edited by Knife Music and goes on sale worldwide at the beginning of 1998. At the beginning of 1999 the piper CARLOS NÚÑEZ takes an interest in him and incorporates him to the band that made the tour of the second album 'Os amores libre' , literally going around the world from concert to concert, and receiving excellent reviews for his musical bill.

As of 1996 he begins to receive requests for collaborations in recordings and concerts, as well as productions of albums and musical addresses, of record labels and bands such as CARLOS NUÑEZ, PAUL CARRACK, DAVID BISBAL, LUCAS MASCIANO, DÚO DYOMICO, DIANA NAVARRO, MIGUEL SAEZ , MANU TENORIO, MANUEL CARRASCO, ROSA, BETH, SORAYA among others. Highlights the recording made in Miami for the album ‘Blanco indigo’ by Manu Tenorio produced by KIKE SANTANDER, as well as the one made in MUSICLAN for the homonymous album by MANUEL CARRASCO.

In 2011 he presented his solo project ‘Unexpected Evolution’, an album in which he gathers 12 homegrown songs. Previously, he released his first CD 'Times', where he also collected twelve original songs by LUIS ROBISCO. In both CDs, the compositions embrace a concept of fusion where flamenco and world-jazz intersect, with pop brushstrokes that reinforce the melodic character of the proposal. Which allows you to make a trip through the different sounds and colors of guitar: from the electric to the Spanish. Among the collaborations with which the albums feature, there are such prominent names of flamenco-jazz and soul as CARLES BENAVENT, JORGE PARDO, TINO DI GERALDO, OMAR LYE-FOOK, JOAN RECTORET, ROGER BLÀVIA, ENRIC CANADA ...

With ‘Times’ and ‘Unexpected Evolution’, the prestigious FRESH SOUND label, which has discovered many of the young talents of contemporary jazz, is committed to LUIS ROBISCO and its new concept of Flemish fusion. An integrative and universal proposal.

From 2014 LUIS ROBISCO becomes part of the BARCELONA GUITAR TRIO group, together with MANUEL GONZÁLEZ and XAVIER COLL offering recitals that can be enjoyed from the best music in the country (Albéniz, Falla) to authors such as Piazzolla, Chick Corea or ROBISCO's own pieces, all within the framework of PALAU DE LA MÚSICA, a jewel of Catalan modernism and one of the most important rooms in the world and in the Basilica of Santa María del Pi.
