Despite his young age, Lionel Andrey is already a highly sought after clarinetist, especially for chamber music. He is frequently invited to play in numerous Swiss festivals and concert series such as the Cully Classique Festival, Davos Festival, Engadina Classica, Schubertiade d’Espace 2, Swiss Chamber Music Festival (Adelboden), Label Suisse Festival (Lausanne), as well as international festivals, such as Crusell Week (Uusikaupunki, Finland), Hassfest (Yerevan, Armenia), among others.
He has premiered pieces by Michael Jarrell (Assonance 1b), the renowned clarinetist Charles Neidich (Tempest in a Tea Pot) as well as others.
His recitals have been recorded live for Espace 2 and France Musique.
With his Trio Eclipse he is a prizewinner of various competitions, including the prestigious « Osaka International Chamber Music Competition » in 2017.
He is frequently invited to play with prominent orchestras, such as the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the Finnish Radio Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Sinfonieorchester Basel, the Gstaad Festival Orchestra; and he has performed under the baton of reputable conductors including Neeme Järvi, Susanna Mälkki, Joshua Weilerstein, Douglas Boyd, Mario Venzago, Hannu Lintu, among others.
Lionel Andrey is co-‐organisator of the festival «Week-‐End Musical de Pully».
Lionel Andrey was born in Lausanne in Switzerland in 1990. In 2008 he began his studies at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in the class of Fabio Di Càsola, and from 2010 he continued his studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in the class of Harri Mäki. He finished his studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel in the class of François Benda.
Lionel Andrey has been awarded scholarships by the Friedl Wald Foundation (2014) and the Migros Cultural Percentage (2015 and 2016).
