Leonid Evgenievich Gakkel (born January 27, 1936, Leningrad) is a Russian musicologist and music critic. The son of director Yevgeny Gakkel and actress Rosa Mironovna Sverdlova. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. Cavalier of the Order of Honor (2004).
He graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory in piano with Nathan Perelman and graduate school with a degree in history and theory of performance. Doctor of Arts, professor of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Honored Artist of Russia.
Leonid Gakkel’s books contain articles about the largest Russian musicians of the second half of the 20th century: Evgeny Mravinsky, Svyatoslav Richter, Maria Yudina, Mstislav Rostropovich, Natalia Gutman and others.
