About
Laura Hamilton is Principal Associate Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
With the MET, she has led many of the popular “Live in HD” videocasts, including Carmen, Parsifal, Turandot, Faust, Salome, and Madama Butterfly. Previously a member of the Chicago Symphony, she appeared with that orchestra as concerto soloist with Sir Georg Solti at the podium. The California native is a graduate of Manhattan School of Music, where she was the Nathan Milstein Scholarship recipient. She maintains an active presence as soloist and chamber musician; recent projects have included a cycle of all three Brahms Sonatas, and performances of the Mendelssohn Concerto on both coasts. Ms. Hamilton has performed in the Marlboro, Manchester, and Bard Music Festivals, in summer festivals in Norway and Greece, and on the Met Chamber Ensemble series at Carnegie Hall with James Levine and colleagues. For the past two summers, she has been concertmaster for Lake Tahoe SummerFest. As of December 2013, Ms. Hamilton will be on leave from the MET Orchestra as she assumes the position of concertmaster with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, resident ensemble at the Sydney Opera House.
