About

The Croatian bass-baritone, Krešimir Stražanac, studied with Professor Dunja Vejzović (singing) and Professor Cornelis Witthoefft (Lieder singing) at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart. He won the International La Voce Competition of the Bavarian Radio (art song) and the International Cantilena Competition in Bayreuth (opera / operetta). Other prizes at the International Paula-Salomon-Lindberg Competition Berlin and the Opera Competition of the National Theatre of Zagreb. In September 2012, he won the International Hugo Wolf Competition in Hugo Wolf's birthplace in Gradec, Slovenia.

In oratorio Krešimir Stražanac has a wide repertoire, he sang, among other things, bass cantatas, Passions, B minor Mass (BWV 232) and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms and W.A. Mozart Requiems, Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah, Georg Philipp Telemann’s Lukaspassion, Rossini's Petite Messe, César Franck's Lés Béatitudes.

Since the 2007-2008 season Krešimir Stražanac belongs to the ensemble of the Opernhauses Zürich, where he was already heard as Ping in Turandot, Harlequin in Ariadne auf Naxos, Don Fernando in Fidelio, Morales in Carmen and Principe Yamadori in Madama Butterfly, under the direction of conductors such as Nello Santi, Fedoseyev, Zsolt Hamar, Peter Schneider, Franz Welser-Möst, Carlo Rizzi and Bernard Haitink. In November 2012, he made his debut in the role of Dr. David Livesay in the world premiere of Frank Schwemmer's opera Die Schatzinsel and in March 2013 in the role of Baron Tusenbach in Péter Eötvös' opera The Three Sisters (Opernhaus Zürich).

In the season 2011-2012 season Krešimir Stražanac sang J.S. Bach’s Cantata Ich habe genug BWV 82 and Magnificat BWV 243 with La Scintilla Orchester und the baton of Christopher Moulds at the Opernhaus Zürich In July 2012, he sang Morales in Georges Bizet's Carmen conducted by Plácido Domingo. He often sings with the Stuttgarter Kantorei (Director: KMD Kay Johannsen). He is a member of the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks.

On CD / DVD Krešimir Stražanac can be heard in complete recordings of the operas Carmen (Welser-Möst), Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (van Zweden, Live from the Amsterdam Concertgebouw) and Fidelio (Bernard Haitink).
