Bass-baritone Konstantin Wolff studied at Musikhochschule Karlsruhe with Prof. Donald Litaker and developed a style of interpretation which is dominated by a colourful interpretation of the words.
He started his international career on opera and concert platforms being strongly influenced by conductors who approach music from declamation of the text and using period instruments.
This was at first William Christie (Les Arts Florissants) who invited Konstantin for several concert and opera productions, including Konstantin's operatic debut in Lyon (L'incoronazione di Poppea, Mercurio) and Handel's Orlando in Zurich.
Since 2007 he has been working with René Jacobs on opera stages in Vienna (Rossini Tancredi), Aix-en-Provence (Zauberflöte, Sprecher), Bruxelles and Amsterdam (Orlando, Zoroastro, as well as in concerts and CD recordings like Mozart's Zauberflöte and Bach's St. Matthew passion.
In 2011 Konstantin started to collaborate with Teodor Currentzis, singing Mozart's Requiem and Cosi fan tutte (Don Alfonso) at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. Beginning of 19/20 season he has the pleasure to perform this role again in Bremen, Vienna und Lucerne.
Furthermore Konstantin had the pleasure to work with conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Jordi Savall, Sir John Elliot Gardiner, Helmuth Rilling, Ton Koopman, Jérémie Rohrer, Leonardo Garcia-Allarcon, Marc Minkowsi, Yvan Fischer, Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Riccardo Chailly and Marek Janowski.
Konstantin's season 18/19 is highlighted by Beethoven's 9. Symphony in France and Norway, concert tours with Handel's Messiah in Spain and Germany and his return
to Staatsoper Berlin with Monteverdi's Orfeo (Plutone).
On concert stages Konstantin is mostly asked to sing the big oratorios of Handel and Bach, Haydn’s Creation and Beethoven’s Symphony Nr.9. He appeared as well in Mendelssohn’s Paulus and Elias, the Requiems by Mozart, Brahms, Dvorak, Fauré and Hindemith, Luther in Worms by Meinardus, Mahler's Wunderhornlieder and Golgotha by Frank Martin.
In opera Konstantin appeared in Handel’s Orlando (Zoroastro) in Zurich, Bruxelles and Amsterdam; Rodelinda at Theater an der Wien (Nikolaus Harnoncourt), as well as in Giulio Cesare (Acchilla) at the Handel festival Göttingen under Nicholas McGegan.
After his first Mozart role as Sprecher (The magic flute) in Aix-en-Provence Konstantin sang Cosi fan tutte (Don Alfonso) and Don Giovanni (Masetto, in concert) at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.
He sang the title role in Le nozze di Figaro in Montpellier and performed Conte Almaviva at Volksoper Wien.
Konstantin appeared as well in pieces by Monteverdi's (Orfeo, Plutone), Telemann, Rossini (Tancredi), Verdi (La Traviata, Marquis d'Obigny), and Britten (A Midsummernight's dream, Curlew river) in opera houses in Lille, Strasbourg, Lyon, Luxemburg, Bruxelles, Amsterdam, Zurich, Staatsoper Berlin, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and Theater an der Wien.
He was part of two world premiers: Benoit Mernier's Frühlings Erwachen and Gesualdo by Marc-André Dalbavie.
Konstantin has regularly been working with leading baroque ensembles such as Concerto Köln, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble, Kammerorchester Basel, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Le Cercle de l’Harmonie and La Scintilla, and has been invited by renowned symphony orchestras like Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Radio Orchestra Cologne, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Wiener Symphoniker, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, Orchestre de la Radio France, Orchestra del RAI Turin.
In recitals he performed in Germany, France, Switzerland and at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg. His recital album “Victor Hugo en musique” with pianist Trung Sam was released in 2008 on Harmonia Mundi France.
