Konrad Kuhn is a German dramaturge and translator.
Kuhn studied Theater Studies and Comparative Literature at the Freie Universität Berlin. From 1994 to 1999 he was a dramaturg at the Burgtheater Vienna. In 1999 he got the dramaturgy for Achim Freyer's production of Schumann's Genoveva at the Leipzig Opera and at the Wiener Festwochen. From 1999 to 2003 Kuhn was a dramaturge, press spokesman and personal assistant to the director of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich. From 2009 to 2012 he was a dramaturge at the Zurich Opera House where he worked there. a. again with Freyer (Moses and Aron), as well as, u. a., with Damiano Michieletto, Harry Kupfer and David Pountney.
In Munich, his regular collaboration with Claus Guth began with the world premiere of Awet Terterjans opera Das Beben (after Heinrich von Kleist's novella The Earthquake in Chile) in 2003. At the Theater an der Wien in 2009 and 2013, Kuhn supervised Guth's scenic versions of Handel's Messiah and from Schubert's oratorio fragment Lazarus, as well as Guth's Monteverdi cycle, completed in 2015 with L'incoronazione di Poppea. Together with this director Kuhn also worked as dramaturge of Wagner's Tannhäuser at the Vienna State Opera (2010) and at the world premiere of Aschemond or The Fairy Queen by Helmut Oehring and Henry Purcell at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden (2013).
With the directing Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier he realized u. a. in Zurich the premiere of Marc-André Dalbavies Gesualdo (2010) and Rossini's Otello (2012), as well as at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto (2012) and Bellini's Norma (2013). The collaboration with director and stage designer Robert Wilson covered Norma (Zurich 2011), Verdi's Macbeth (São Paulo 2012, Bologna and Reggio Emilia 2013), Ionesco's Rhinoceros in Craiova (Romania), and most recently Adam's Passion, a staging of Arvo's music Pärt at Noblessner Foundry Tallinn, Estonia. At the 2014 Salzburg Festival, Kuhn was the dramaturge for Dalbavie's second opera - Charlotte Salomon. The premiere was staged by Luc Bondy and conducted by the composer. With the beginning of the season 2015/16 Konrad Kuhn is committed as a dramaturge at the Frankfurt Opera.
Konrad Kuhn is also a translator and has u. a. a volume of poetry with texts by the ostmenischen poet Jeghische Tscharenz translated and edited (extended reprint 2015). From the summer semester 2013 until the summer semester 2014, he also worked as a lecturer at the University of Vienna. Konrad Kuhn is married to the Armenian soprano Hasmik Papian.
