Kevin Langan (born April 1, 1955) is an American operatic bass known for his long and prolific career on the opera stage. Originally from New York City, he studied voice under Margaret Harshaw at Indiana University. In 1983, Langan received a Richard Tucker Foundation grant, which marked an important milestone in his career.Langan's inspiration for a career in opera came in 1964, when, as an eight-year-old boy, he saw The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. The moment sparked his love for music and his desire to perform. Later, in 1991, he met Paul McCartney and shared the story with him, to which McCartney smiled and said it was the first time The Beatles had inspired anyone to pursue a career in opera.Langan made his solo concert debut at London's Wigmore Hall in 1979, and his New York debut was at Carnegie Hall on April 4, 1984. The New York Times noted him as "a true bass in the classical sense."During his career, Langan has performed more than 80 roles in more than 1,300 performances, collaborating with such distinguished artists as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Marilyn Horne, and Sherrill Milnes. He became the first artist to reach 300 performances in 43 productions with the San Francisco Opera and has appeared in 19 productions with the San Diego Opera. In 1996, Langan sang the role of Henry Mosher in the world premiere of Tobias Picker's Emmeline.Langan is married to American operatic soprano Sally Wolfe, known for her performances as the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute.
