Katrin Wundsam grows up in Neustift, Upper Austria. As a potential transferee of the parental farm, it was initially unclear whether the early recognized musical talents should also be used. For example, Wundsam first studied commercial science at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, and for the time being took singing lessons at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz under Prof. Gerald Trabesinger. After the graduation to the Magistra of the economics she decided to take the entrance exam at the Mozarteum Salzburg. Consequently, the young mezzo-soprano studied with Prof. Ingrid Mayr and attended several master classes, among others with Kurt Widmer, Robert Holl and Wolfgang Holzmair. She regularly takes lessons from Prof. Ingrid Mayr (Salzburg) and Prof. Margreet Honig (Amsterdam).
Katrin Wundsam made her debut as Despina in Mozart's "Cosí fan tutte". In the season 06/07 she was a member of the ensemble at the Passau City Theater where she succeeded as Bradamante (Orlando Furioso, Vivaldi), Miss Jessel (Turn of the Screw, Britten) and Anaide (Florentine Straw Hat, Rota).
From September 2007 to July 2008 she performed at the Landestheater Linz with the roles Olga (Eugen Onegin), Flora (La Traviata) and Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos). In the summer of 2008 she was the first to experience the spirit and the clock in Ernst Kreneck's "Karl V" at the Bregenz Festival. In the season 2008/2009 she was engaged as Bradamante (Orlando Furioso, Vivaldi) at the Bonn Opera and also debuted as Orfeo in Gluck's "Orfeo ed Euridice".
Since the season 2009/10 Katrin Wundsam is a permanent member of the ensemble at the Cologne Opera House and sang here among others: Mercedes (Carmen), Nicklausse (Les Contes d'Hofmann), Fox (The Cunning Little Vixen), Suzuki (Madame Butterfly), Annina (Der Rosenkavalier), Flosshilde (Das Rheingold / Götterdämmerung), 2. Norn (Twilight of the Gods), Grimgerde (Valkyrie), Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito), Penelope (Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria), Ottavia (L'Incoronazione di Poppea) , Bradamante (Alcina).
2011 Katrin Wundsam debuted at the Hamburg State Opera as Dorabella (Cosí fan tutte) and was there in December 2012 as Hansel (Hänsel and Gretel) to hear. She also recorded her first song CD entitled "From Eternal Love" (Brahms Songs). In May 2011 she gave a recital at the Cologne Opera - also titled "Von ewige Liebe", with selected songs by Brahms, Mahler and Strauss. Productions in the 2012/2013 season included La Forza del Destino (Preziosilla), Cosí fan tutte (Dorabella), La Clemenza di Tito (Sesto), Anna Bolena (Smeton) and Die Gezeichneten (Martuccia).
In the summer of 2013 she sang the 3rd Lady (The Magic Flute) and 9th Symphony (Beethoven) at the Bregenz Festival. There she appeared again in the summer of 2014 as the third lady and was also at the festival (Coronation Mass - Mozart) and in the Festspielhaus - in the production "Le Rossignol / L'Hirondelle inattendue" (Stravinsky / Laks) to hear and to see.
In May 2014 she was first seen as Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) at the Hamburg State Opera - under the musical direction of Alfred Eschwé and in June of the same year as Dorabella (Cosí fan tutte) at the Semperoper Dresden and returned there with the game back in October 2014.
In addition, she made her debut in the Vienna Musikverein that same month with Stravinsky's "Les Noce" and Schumann's "Requiem for Mignon".
Other concerts will take her to Switzerland and the Philharmonie Köln with L. Berio's "Folk Songs" in the season 13/14 and 14/15, further engagements have taken her to Hamburg, Konzerthaus Berlin and Grafenegg Castle (Krems).
In autumn 2014 she sang Cosí fan tutte (Dorabella) and Die Zauberflöte (3.Dame) at her parent company, the Cologne Opera.
In April 2015, Katrin Wundsam first performed the Lola Blau in Kreisler's one-woman musical "Tonight - Lola Blau", directed by Eike Ecker and with Rainer Mühlbach on the piano. In May 2015 she made her debut as Carmen (Bizet) - both at the Cologne Opera.
