Karl-Michael Ebner was born in Schärding am Inn, he was a soloist of the Vienna Boys ' Choir, then studied Oboe, singing and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. He completed a further degree in singing with the chamber singer Gertrude Grob-Prandl and Lied and oratorio at the Bruckner University Linz. He is the artistic director of the music festival Steyr and for ten years he is the general director of the Municipal Theatre Bad Hall for opera and Musical, and also head of the vocal ensemble USO and the Schubert ART Ensemble Vienna.

Karl-Michael Ebner has been president of the Austrian Music Theatre Prize since 2012.
In 2001, the title "consultant of music" and in 2013 he was awarded the Silver cross of honour for merit of the Republic of Austria.
He made his debut at the Landestheater Linz as part of the international Bruckner festival. After his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper as Monostatos, he has been a fixed ensemble member of the Volksoper Vienna since 1999 and a permanent guest at the Wiener Staatsoper.
As Monostatos, he performed at the Royal Opera House Covent in London and the Bavarian State Opera Munich. In" Die Zauberflöte "he was also heard in Macao and Catania, he sang the four servant roles in" Les contes d'hoffmann " in Palm Beach, Munich and Vienna. Further invitations led him to Orlando, USA, Florence, The Opera Hong Kong, Beijing Opera, Seville, Madrid, Bilbao, the Arge festival Mauthausen and the Herodes Attikus Theater in Athens.
He sang at the Theater an der Wien in the production of Schulhoff's "Flammen", in Monte Carlo in "Der Rosenkavalier", in Turin "Salome", in Toulon Spoletta in "Tosca" and at the Wiener Festwochen the Monostatos. He was the first Jew to be heard in "Salome" at the Vienna State Opera and in Lisbon, sang his first Mime in "Das Rheingold" in Dublin, Basilio in "Le nozze di Figaro" in Monte Carlo, Monostatos at the Opera Festival in St. Margarethen. Under the baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta he sang the role of the Hunchback in "The woman without a shadow," Hauck Sendorf in "The Makropulos case", the Jaquino in "Fidelio" at the Teatro Firenze, Melot in "Tristan and Isolde" and "Fidelio" in Valencia, Monostatos, and the First Jews in "Salome" in Tokyo, Pappacoda in "A night in Venice" in St. Gallen, the helmsman in "The flying Dutchman" and "The magic flute" in Hong Kong, "Parsifal" in Florence, and the First Jews in Naples.
He completed his debut as a conductor with an operetta concert at the Gothenburg Opera, and sang in "The merry widow" at the Savonlinna Opera play Jaquino Maestro Zubin Mehta in Florence, and in 2016, also in Tel Aviv.
In addition to its fixed Engagement in Vienna, sings Karl-Michael Ebner, 2017, in "The merry widow" at the Opéra Bastille in Paris and his first Herod in Catania.
