Karl Espegard is a classically trained violinist from Drammen, Norway. He is a member of the tango band El Muro Tango, and is currently playing at the box office hit The Book of Mormon at Det Norske Teatret in Oslo.
Karl grew up studying at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, graduating from Hochschule der Künste Bern and the Norwegian Academy of Music with professor Detlef Hahn. He has worked in a variety of critically acclaimed shows and musicals in Oslo, including «Tenk om» (2016) and «Kvitebjørn Kong Valemon» (2016) at Det Norske Teatret, «Reisen til Julestjernen» (2016) at Nationaltheatret and «Herborg til Chat Noir» (2017) at Chat Noir. He has contributed to a number of national TV series and live broadcasts, and has worked with artists such as Ylvis, Herborg Kråkevik, Alexander Rybak, Sverre Indris Joner and Hanne Tveter.
As a member of the Swiss Chamber Orchestra and The World Orchestra, Karl has toured in Spain, England, Switzerland, Holland, Austria, Germany and China. He has performed at the Norwegian embassies in Tokyo, Moscow and Buenos Aires, and in 2014 he was a soloist with Orquesta Sinfónica de Trujillo in Peru. During 2014–2016 he worked with the Argentine tango ensemble Orquesta del Centenario, with whom he recorded the album “Homenaje” (2015), went on two European tours and gave countless concerts in Argentina. With his current tango band El Muro, Karl performs regularly in tango clubs, theatres and festivals around Europe, working with Argentine singers such as Juan Villarreal (Orquesta El Arranque) and Negro Falótico (Orquesta Típica Rodolfo Mederos).
