Greis grew up in Hattingen / North Rhine-Westphalia. During his school years at the Gymnasium Waldstraße, he spent a year in the United States as part of the parliamentary sponsorship program of the German Bundestag and the American Congress. He gained his first theatrical experience at the Junges Schauspielhaus Bochum until he completed his acting training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart under the direction of Volker Canaris from 2003 to 2006.

Already during his studies he played as a guest at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and at Württembergische Landesbühne Esslingen. At the acting school meeting in Munich in 2006, he was awarded the Young Talent Prize of the German Ministry of Education for his role in "Merlin or Das wüste Land". After his training he was engaged from 2006 to 2009 at the Schauspielhaus Graz under the direction of Anna Badora. There he worked with Viktor Bodó, Tom Kühnel, Anna Badora, Christina Rast, Franz Wittenbrink and Ingo Berk.

He has been a permanent member of the Thalia Theater (Hamburg) under the direction of Joachim Lux since the 2009/2010 season. a. with Jette Steckel, Antú Romero Nunes, Luk Perceval, Leander Haußmann, Maria Ursprung, Tiit Ojasoo, Christopher Rüping and Bastian Kraft.

Greis works in addition to the theater as a film and television actor and as a speaker for audio books and radio plays.

In December 2012, he was honored by the Körber Foundation with the Boy Gobert Prize for young actors at Hamburger Bühnen. In October 2014, together with his ensemble colleagues, he received the Rolf Mares Prize for Best Actor for her performance in "Moby Dick". In 2017 he was awarded with the German children's audiobook award BEO for the audiobook "George" and in 2018 for the audiobook "What we thought we did".
