About
Born in Almeria (Spain), he started his music studies in the Conservatory of Almería, where flute was his main instrument. In 2010 he obtained his diploma in Music Education with the University of Almería. One year later he finishes his flute studies and in 2013 gets his Master diploma with the University of Jaén in Acting and Opera Interpretation. His singing career starts in 2009 with Le Nozze di Figaro (Basilio and Curzio). Since then he has performed Don Giovanni (Don Ottavio), Bastien und Bastienne (Bastien), West Side Story (Tony), The Phantom of the Opera (Raoul), Luisa Fernanda (Javier) in between many opera and zarzuela recitals in Spain, France, England and Germany. Mateos has studied with Raina Kabaivanska, Hedwig Fassbender, Ildar Abdrazakov, Luciana d’Intino or Jaume Aragall among others. Currently, he keeps working with Carlos Aransay and Guy Flechter.
In 2016 he became one of the members of the National Opera Studio of Paris, with whom he has performed Sir Phillip/Narrator in Owen Wingrave , Mercure/Thélème in Les Fêtes d’Hebe ́, Bastien in Bastien et Bastienne and the tenor part in The Little Match Girl Passion by David Lang in between different concerts, all in Palais Garnier, Opéra Bastille’s Amphitheatre or Royal College of Music (London). He performed Cavalier Belfiore in Il Viaggio a Reims (Gran Teatre del Liceu), opening the season 2017/18 of the theatre and Der Soldat in Reigen by Boesmans again with the Opera Studio of Paris among some concerts and competitions.
Among his upcoming projects are his debuts in Deutsche Oper Berlin performing Don Luigino/Zefirino/Gelsomino in Il Viaggio a Reims, in Schloss Kirchstetten Klassik Festival (Austria) with Conte d’Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, in Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo (Spain) with Narciso in Il Turco in Italia. He will also continue his work with Gran Teatre del Liceu.
He was recently awarded the second prize of Hariclea Darclée International Voice Competition. Currently, he prepares the Final Rounds of Tenor Viñas Competition, as well as a recital in Beirut (Lebanon) and another in Palais Garnier in Paris.
