Joshua Benevento most recently won a Grammy Award for his involvement with The Metropolitan Opera’s 2013 recording of Wagner: Der Ring Des Nibelungen.
The Liederkranz Foundation Competition resulted with him as a finalist in the Opera Division, as well as a first place winner in the Lieder Division. The prestigious Mario Lanza Competition also culminated with a successful first place.
Mr. Benevento sung leading roles in numerous operas including Ariadne auf Naxos, Siegfried, Götterdämmerung, Susannah, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Die Fledermaus, Aida, Gianni Schicchi, Die Zauberflöte, Turandot, Carmen, L’incoronazione di Poppea, The Merry Widow, and Hänsel und Gretel at various companies, among which are The Metropolitan Opera, American Classical Orchestra, New Jersey Verismo Opera, New Rochelle Opera, Purchase Opera, Wyckoff Opera, Opera 691, Coro Lirico, New York Opera Forum, and the State Repertory Opera New Jersey.
The New York premiere of Lee Hoiby’s brilliant opera, The Tempest, included Mr. Benevento performing the challenging and exquisite role of Caliban, which he later interpreted on a recording recently released by Albany Records to rave reviews by three of the major reviewers of recorded works. He also created the role of the Uncle in the highly acclaimed recent world premiere production of Raphaël Lucas's Confession, another opera he recorded with Albany Records. Expanding from the operatic stage, his work also includes, as a soloist, orchestra performances of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Handel’s The Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Carissimi’s Jephte and Mozart’s Requiem. The beginnings of his professional career were established with a singing role in the HBO Series, The Sopranos.
