Joseph Anderer is Principal Horn of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and has performed in the horn section since 1984. He is also a founding member of St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble and the Orchestra of St. Luke's. He holds degrees from the Juilliard School.

Before joining the Met Orchestra, Mr. Anderer performed frequently with the New York Philharmonic for 14 seasons, and participated in many concerts, recordings and tours in the USA and to over 20 countries in Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. He was also a longtime member of the Boehm Woodwind Quintette, premiering many works by composers such as Ralph Shapey, Charles Wuorinen, and John Lewis. He has performed solos with the Orchestra of St. Luke's in Carnegie Hall and at the Caramoor Festival. More recently he has performed chamber music at the Verbier Festival, and has played principal horn with the Saito Kinen Festival Orchestra among others. Mr. Anderer was heard in Schubert's "Auf dem Strom" with Hermann Prey and James Levine at Herr Prey's last New York recital prior to his death. He was also soloist in the American premier of Benjamin Britten's "Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal" at Carnegie Hall with the Orchestra of St. Luke's. He is a member of the NYU faculty.
