About
Born in Mataró, near Barcelona (Spain), maybe influenced by the fact that his grandfather played the slide trombone in the municipal band and his father was an amateur actor, he already showed an interest in music and theatre as a child. At the age of seven, he joined the children’s choir Escolania de Santa Anna-Pueri Cantores de Mataró. He shortly after took to the stage for the first time, as he was cast as the character of Benjamí in the traditional Christmas play Els pastorets in the local theatre, directed by the master Enric Torra, author of the original music score. He stuck to acting and acquired the abilities he would exploit in his future career as a professional singer.
He started studying music and took solfeggio, piano and violin lessons from Albert Nieto. Later, he completed singing studies at Liceu Conservatory Music School, and the Higher Degree of the Conservatori Superior de Música de Barcelona. He has received classes from Francisco Lázaro, Aldo Danieli, Bonaldo Giaiotti, Ana Luisa Chova and Carlos Chausson.
In 1999, he made his professional debut with Manrico (Il trovatore), and from then on he became a regular collaborator of the opera programme of Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. He has performed under the baton of conductors like Stefano Ranzani, Bertrand de Billy, José Collado, Guido Mancusi, Miguel Roa, Ernst Märzendofer, Antoni Ros Marbà, Friedrich Haider, Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Ives Abel, Nello Santi, Josep Caballé, José Collado, Daniele Callegari, Giovanni Di Stefano, Maurizio Benini, Sebastian Weigle, Michael Boder, Renato Palumbo, Josep Pons, Riccardo Zanetti and Christopher Franklin, among others.
He has been described as very competent, already as a novice tenor (Samson et Dalila, March 2001); he has been distinguished along with other minor role players (Henry VIII, January 2002); his excellent voice timbre and boldness when tackling the role of Don Álvaro (La forza del destino, March 2003) have been highlighted; his Canio has been defined as powerful and moving (Pagliacci, October 2005).
Soon, his professional activity took him to a number of national and international theatres and halls, where he played relevant roles, notably:
DON JOSÉ (Carmen),
Alexander Mijailov International Festival, Russia;
POLLIONE (Norma),
Klagenfurt Stadttheater, Austria;
JOSÉ MARÍA (La Chulapona),
Teatro de la Zarzuela de Madrid;
RADAMES (Aida),

Teatro Sociale di Rovigo, Italy;
VERDI REQUIEM in Maó, Minorca;

Auditori Enric Granados de Lleida.
Having played a large number of leading and main roles, he redirected his career towards character tenor roles, specialising in characters that require both acting ability and great musicality. This new stage, begun a few years ago, responds to the greater demands of some of these characters, involving the experience, vocality and interpretative skills that he is now capable of contributing, having reached professional maturity.
More recently, in May 2015, he took part in the production of Verdi’s I due foscari, with Plácido Domingo, at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. In February 2016, he took part in the staging of Rossini’s Otello at the Gran Teatre del Liceu with Gregory Kunde. In July 2016, he made his debut at the Castell de Peralada Festival with Puccini’s Turandot, with Irene Tehorin and Roberto Aronica, in a new production directed by Mario Gas. In April 2017, he took part in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, alongside Javier Camarena, Carlos Álvarez and Leo Nucci. In June 2017, he took part in the production of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatre Principal in Maó, together with Elena Mosuc and Celso Albelo. In January 2018, he took part in the concert version of Donizetti’s Poliuto at the Teatre del Liceu with Gregory Kunde and Sondra Radvanovsky. In February of the same year, he sang in Bilbao the First Jew of Salome by Strauss, and in May 2018 he debuted in the Maestranza of Seville with Adriana Lecouvreur, together with Ainhoa Arteta, playing one of the most difficult roles in the tenor character repertoire, the Abate di Chazeuil.
His upcoming performances will take him to Oviedo with Tosca, by Puccini, to Bilbao with I lombardi allà prima crociata, by Verdi, and Semiramide, by Rossini, and to Barcelona with Hamlet, by Ambrosie Thomas.
