Josa Gerhard (violin / viola), born in Cologne, studied violin at the Berlin University of the Arts under Rainer Kimstedt and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main with Priya Mitchell.
In addition to his instrumental education, he dealt with interdisciplinary and experimental music theater formats. At the Graduate School of the UdK Berlin, he developed a scholarship to work on the interface between audio art and games. He is a founding member of the network Invisible Playground.
As a violinist, Josa Gerhard works in the field of chamber music, orchestras and music theater. He has performed at the Schauspielhaus Zurich, the Staatsoper Stuttgart, the Munich Opera Festival, the Nationaltheater Mannheim, the Schauspielhaus Hannover, the European Union Chamber Orchestra and the Munich KlangVerwaltung Orchestra. He is a member of the Berlin Oriel Quartet. Other musical impulses came from his work with the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra as well as other jazz ensembles, Balkan Roma musicians and tango violinist Fernando Suarez Paz, who played in Astor Piazzolla's quintet.
In May 2018, Josa Gerhard and Sebastian Quack curated the Playsonic Festival in Frankfurt, a cooperation project with the Alte Oper Frankfurt and the Ensemble Modern.
