Joel Imperial was born in Aosta in 1979. After studying violin under the guidance of Osvaldo Scilla for some years, he decided to devote himself to the viola and graduated in 2001 with Davide Zaltron at the Conservatory "Giuseppe Verdi" in Turin with the highest marks. Thanks to a scholarship from De Sono, attended courses by Danilo Rossi at the "A. Rolla" Academy in Pavia and Luca Ranieri at the "Romanini" Academy in Brescia. Joel Imperial attended master classes and masterclasses with Hatto Beyerle, Simonide Braconi, Danilo Rossi and attended for two years the Hochschule der Künste in Bern with Patrick Jüdt.

From 1993 to 1998 he studied under the guidance of Osvaldo Scilla and later decided to devote himself to the viola. Then studied with Davide Zaltron at the "G. Verdi" Conservatory in Turin where graduated with top marks in 2001. Later, thanks to a scholarship from the "De Sono" Association of Turin, Joel Imperial was a student of Danilo Rossi (first viola of the Orchestra of the "Teatro alla Scala") at the "A. Rolla" academy in Pavia and follows the lessons of Luca Ranieri (first viola of the "Rai National Symphony Orchestra") at the "Romanini" academy of Brescia. Since 2003, he has studied with Hatto Beyerle at the Fiesole Music School. In 2005 attended the viola masterclasses held by Simonide Braconi (first viola of the Orchestra of the "Teatro alla Scala") in Sion and those of Danilo Rossi in Bardonecchia and Città di Castello. He is currently studying cin Patrick Juedt at the Hochschule der Kuenste in Bern.
Joel Imperial is an active member of the Italian Youth Orchestra (1998-2000) and of the "Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester" (2000-2002) with whom he plays in the most important European venues. Studied chamber music with Boris Baraz, Piero Farulli, Alain Meunier, Milan Skampa and performed with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Ivan Fischer, Daniele Gatti, Carlo Maria Giulini, Eliahu Inbal, Mariss Janssons, Franz Welser-Most. In the two youth orchestras Joel Imperial has the opportunity to study viola with Antonello Farulli, Jurgen Kussmaul, Thomas Riebl and with some members of the "Berliner Philharmoniker". He has been invited several times by the Dutch Youth Orchestra as the first viola. He participates in various projects for young musicians such as the "Gustav Mahler Akademie" of Bolzano (2000-2001) and, being a finalist for two consecutive years at the auditions for the EUYO (European Youth Orchestra), takes part in "Il Suono Italiano per il Europa "(2002).
In 2000 won the second prize at the "National Review for Student Violists" of Vittorio Veneto and in 2001 the second prize at the "Competition for Strings of the Scuola Musicale di Milano". Joel Imperial won the competition for a viola viola in a row at the "Orchestra della Toscana" and covered this role from 2003 to 2006. Since January 2007 he has been the first viola of the Orchestra "I Pomeriggi Musicali" in Milan.
Following the numerous auditions and competitions in which he takes part, Joel Imperial collaborates with the "La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra", the "Teatro alla Scala Orchestra", the "Rai National Symphony Orchestra", the "Teatro Regio Orchestra "of Turin, the" Philharmonic Orchestra of Turin ", the Orchestra of the" Gran Teatro La Fenice "of Venice, the" Chamber Orchestra of Mantua ".
Joel Imperia also carries out an intense chamber activity in formations ranging from the duo with piano to the chamber orchestra passing through the string quartet.
