Joan Magrané Figuera (Reus, 1988) is a winning Spanish composer, among others, of the Reina Sofía Award for Musical Composition (2013) .1 The year 2016 has been laureate de l'Académie de France residing in the Villa Medici in Rome2 and during the years 2017 and 2018 he is a member of the Académie de France à Madrid residing in the House of Velázquez
He began his training under the tutelage of Ramon Humet. Later he studied at the Esmuc (Barcelona) with Agustín Charles, at the Kunst Universität de Graz with Beat Furrer and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris with Stefano Gervasoni.4 Mauricio Sotelo and Jesús Torres have also influenced his artistic development, and has attended master classes of composers such as Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, George Benjamin, Salvatore Sciarrino, Helmut Lachenmann, Brian Ferneyhough, José-María Sánchez-Verdú, Hèctor Parra, Pedro Alcalde and Alberto Posadas.
His works have been performed throughout Europe by orchestras, instrumental and solo ensembles such as the Ensemble Intercontemporain, 5 the Quatuor Diotima, the Quartet Gerhard, 6 the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, 7 the Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona and National of Catalonia, 8 the RTVE Orchestra, the Neue Vocalsolisten, 9 the Arbós Trio, 9 bcn216, CrossinLines, Funktion, Adrián Blanco and Mario Prisuelos, among others.10 Their catalog includes chamber music, for instrumental ensemble, for orchestra symphony and for solo instruments. In 2014, Dido Reloaded premiered at the Teatre Lliure in Barcelona, a chamber opera written eight hands with Xavier Bonfill, Raquel García-Tomás and Octavi Rumbau.11 Together with Raquel García-Tomás, he also wrote the opera disPLACE, with libretto by Helena Tornero and released in Vienna in 2015.12
In July 2019, the opera Diàlegs de Tirant e Carmesina premiered at the Peralada Festival, with a libretto by Marc Rosich. The work is based on the Tirant lo Blanc by Joanot Martorell. The premiere singers were Isabella Gaudí, in the role of Carmesina, Josep-Ramon Olivé, as Tirant and Anna Alàs i Jové with the double role of Plaerdemavida and Viuda Reposada and Francesc Prat in the musical direction.
