American Soprano Jessica Sandidge grew up in California, playing the violin and harp in orchestras through elementary school to her undergraduate degree, when she vehemently switched to singing opera. She has been described as having a "genuinely beautiful sound throughout her voice." Her repertoire includes Bel Canto, Verismo, and Contemporary operatic and concert works.
Upcoming performances include the role of Margaret Hughes in Carlisle Floyd’s latest work, Prince of Players, making its New York debut with Little Opera Theater of New York, a company she had previously sung with in Gluck’s rarely performed The Reformed Drunkard. Directly after that she will be joining the New Jersey Festival Orchestra as Violetta in their production of La Traviata in March. She will also be joining New York's Heartbeat Opera as Micaëla in their upcoming production of Carmén. Later this year she will make a role debut as Hannah Glawari in Léhar's The Merry Widow with The Muses Project in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Her 2016/17 season peaked when she joined the Metropolitan Opera this past November, covering the role of Jano in Janácek's Jenufa. She also made her second appearance at Lincoln Center in David Geffen Hall as the Soprano soloist in the National Chorale's Messiah (Händel) Sing-in in December. Her Lincoln Center debut was just a few months prior, in May, when she performed Violetta's aria, "Ah, forse è lui...Sempre libera" in Rose Hall with the ISO of New York.
Of her most recent performance as Mimì with Martina Arroyo's Prelude to Performance, Anthony Tommasini of the New York Times wrote: "...these young singers understand Puccini’s characters, especially Jessica Sandidge, who brings a melting soprano voice and vulnerability to Mimi, the winsome seamstress stricken with tuberculosis”
She has made several New York and US premiere performances, such as, the soprano soloist in, A Prayer for Mother Earth, composed by Ivo Antogninni with The New England Symphonic Ensemble in a world premiere performance at Carnegie Hall. This concert also included solos in Requiem for the Living by Dan Forrest. Another NY premiere included singing the role of Paolina in the resurrection of Donizetti's Poliuto in which The New York Times wrote: she "... sang beautifully as Paolina, her dynamic control and expressive gesture notable throughout
Other recent performances include her Carnegie Hall debut as Soprano in Fauré's Requiem with Manhattan Concert Productions and Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) with Long Island Opera. She has performed the following soprano roles: Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Micaëla (Carmén), Violetta (La Traviata), Nedda (Pagliacci), Mimì and Musetta (La Bohème), Freia (Das Rheingold), Janthe (Der Vampyr), Valencienne (The Merry Widow), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), and Gilda (Rigoletto). She has performed with such companies as Opera New Jersey, Martina Arroyo's Prelude to Performance, Manhattan Concert Productions, MidAmerica Productions, New York Grand Opera, Opera Ischia, SongFest, Chelsea Opera, Lowell House Opera, Regina Opera, and the Liederkranz Opera Theater.
