Jeroen Lopes Cardozo started his professional career as a stage director with a production of Benjamin Britten’s church opera “Curlew River”. Soon after he was invited to become artistic leader of De Kleine Opera Stichting(the small opera foundation). For over 12 years he produced and directed many new written opera productions for this foundation.
He also directs musicals and shows, and worked for instance for Joop van den Ende Theatre Productions for the Phantom of the Opera as a Resident Director. He directed operas of Mozart, Offenbach, Wagner, Benjamin Britten, Gian-Carlo Menotti, Vaughan Williams, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Purcell, Poulenc, Puccini, Strauss jr. and Monteverdi and worked with conductors like George Pehlivanian, Arjan Tien, Lawrence Renes, Jaap van Zweden, Arie van Beek, Roderick Shaw , Ed Spanjaard, Kenneth Montgomery and Frans Brüggen. Lopes Cardozo worked with the following orchestras: Residentie Orkest, The Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, the orchestra of De Vlaamse Opera, Orkest Zuid and the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest. For many years he was a member of the Board of the Dutch Arts Council, in the field of opera, music-theatre and musical projects. He worked as a director and gave workshops in Holland, Germany, England, France, Italy, Spain, Poland and Ireland. He studied to become a fight director at the Society of British Fight Directors in London. He choreographed hunderds of fights for all important Dutch theatre companies, movies (like the Oscar winning movie KARAKTER) and many Dutch television-series. Lopes Cardozo trained actors in workshops all over Europe. Lopes Cardozo is also a producer, (co-)producing many of his own opera productions, but also he produces events for major companies in Holland such as Albert Heijn, L’Oréal, IBM and Rabobank Nederland. For Rabobank he is preferred supplier for events and entertainment. In the near future he is directing Die Fledermaus and Fidelio.
