About

Welsh tenor Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts made his Royal Opera debut in 2007 as Gherardo (Gianni Schicchi) and has since returned to sing Rash Gambler (The Gambler), Trucker (Anna Nicole, world premiere) and Jack (Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny) for The Royal Opera. He returns in the 2017/18 Season to sing Drunk Prisoner (From the House of the Dead).

Lloyd-Roberts studied music at Lancaster University and singing at the Royal Northern College of Music with Barbara Robotham. Engagements include Don Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro) for Welsh National Opera, the title role in Peter Grimes, Gherman (The Queen of Spades), Mazal, Blankytny and Petřík (The Adventures of Mr Brouček) and Luka Kuzmich (From the House of the Dead) for Opera North, Malatestino (Francesca da Rimini) and Tichon (Kát’a Kabanová) for Opera Holland Park, Prince (The Love for Three Oranges), Prince (Rusalka) and Erik (Der fliegende Holländer) for Grange Park Opera, Prince/Manservant/Marquis (Lulu) and Police Officer/Clerk/Forest Warden (Julietta) for English National Opera, Nicias (Thaïs) for Teatro di São Carlos, Lisbon, and King Arthur (Gawain) for Salzburg Festival.

Lloyd-Roberts’s appearances in concert include Weill’s Mahagonny-Songspiel and Seven Deadly Sins for the BBC Proms, Martinů’s Epic of Gilgamesh with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Simon Rattle, Birtwistle’s Angel Fighter with MusikFabrik in Leipzig and his Gawain at the Barbican with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Bartók’s Cantata Profana with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings in Denmark.
