About
French decorator painter
(Paris, December 12, 1827 - Paris 10th, 11th May, 1882)
Son of Dominique Louis DARAN, decorator, and Louise Frédérique Aménaïde LEFÈVRE.
Wife Jeanne Rosalie DEPAPE (Bruges, Belgium, 1825 - Paris 10th, December 6th, 1879 *); father of Alphonse DARAN (1844 -), painter and decorator.
He worked for the Opera from 1874 to 1882 and seems to have been an outdoor specialist in a late romantic style. We must retain the decor of the ballet Coppelia by Leo Delibes (1875), and that of the first painting of Act I of the King of Lahore Massenet (1877).
He died at his home, 128 rue du Faubourg Poissonnière in Paris 10th.
