Javier Castaño Medina (La Puebla de Montalbán -Toledo-) starts his musical studies in his native town. At the age of 13 he began studying tuba at the Jacinto Guerrero Professional Conservatory in Toledo. Years later, moved to Madrid to continue at the Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid, where he obtained a scholarship to study music in Hannover (Germany) with Professor Jens Bjior Larsen.
During these years, Javier Castaño Medina is part of the National Youth Orchestra of Spain (JONDE), the European Union Youth Orchestra (Euyo) and the Schleswig-Holstein festival. He regularly collaborates with the National Orchestra of Spain, the Symphonic Orchestra of Galicia, the Symphony of Tenerife, the Symphony of Navarra, the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville, the City of Granada Orchestra, the City of Córdoba Orchestra and the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra. It has been tuba by the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra from 2004 to 2008.
From 2009 to 2014 was a member of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and in May 2013 he won the tuba position at the La Scala theater in Milan, where he currently works with directors such as Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Chailly, Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, among others. . He is usually invited by Daniel Barenboim as main tuba at the meetings of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. He has completed summer courses in Valencia (Fesmon), an orchestral repertoire course at the Superior Music Conservatory of Vigo, a tuba course at the Lalin Conservatory, and others. Currently Javier continues to expand his studies with Gene Pokorny, tuba of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
