Hugo Carrio, born in Gijón, Spain, has been Artistic Director of Sinfonía por el Perú since 2016, and is also Principal Conductor of the Children and Youth Orchestra and the Academy Orchestra of this program. He received important suggestions from José Antonio Abreu, the founder of the Venezuelan music program El Sistema, in which he played from 2006 to 2014.
In addition to his work in socially oriented music projects, Hugo Carrio has collaborated with numerous orchestras in Spain and Latin America, including the National Orchestras of Ecuador and Dominican Republic, Oviedo Filarmonía, Orquesta Ciudad de Santiago de Chile and the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil «Ataúlfo Argenta» whose chief conductor he was until 2016.
