Helmut Deutsch was born in Vienna and studied piano and composition as well as musicology at the University of Music Vienna.
His specialty is chamber music and song accompaniment. In 1967 he received the Composition Prize of his hometown. From 1967 to 1979 he taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, today he is Professor of Song Design at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. He also gives interpretation courses in Europe and Japan. During his career he accompanied u. a. Irmgard Seefried, Diana Damrau, Brigitte Fassbaender, Anne Sofie von Otter, Dietrich Henschel, Jonas Kaufmann, Thomas Quasthoff and Hermann Prey. His concert career has taken him to all parts of the world, and he is a permanent guest of major music centers and festivals.
