Gudrun Hartmann joined Deutsche Oper am Rhein during her studies in musicology, German Studies and theatre studies as a volunteer for directing and dramaturgy. After further Engagements in Gelsenkirchen and Wuppertal, she was obliged to the Zurich Opera House, where she was the head of the game, mainly responsible for Productions whose scenic language makes very special demands on the participants. From 2004 to 2012 she was director of the International Opera Studio of the Zurich Opera House. In this time, the most important of her productions fall, for example Menotti's "The Consul", Poulenc's "Le mamelles de Tirésias", Offenbach's "Barbe-Bleue", Orff's "die Kluge" and Benjamin Britten's "Albert Herring," "The Beggar's Opera" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Gudrun Hartmann was invited as a guest to the Wiener Festwochen, the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Opéra Bastille in Paris, the Megaron Mousikis Athens, the Styriarte Graz, the Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Metropolitan Opera, the Bayreuth Festival ("Der Ring des Nibelungen" with Jürgen Flimm) and in recent years to the Salzburg Festival and the Teatro alla Scala.
