Life
Gisbert Näther was born on July 30, 1948 in Ebersbach / Sa. born. The parents operated a bakery in their birthplace. He started playing the piano early, and even as a student, without guidance, composed small pieces that were performed in the circle of the family. After graduation he took the subjects horn and composition at the Academy of Music Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden. After the state examination in 1974 in both subjects, he worked as a horn player in the Jena Philharmonic and from 1977 at the Potsdam Hans Otto Theater. During this time rested his compositional activity. Only with the change to the DEFA Symphony Orchestra in 1981, he began to compose again, first chamber music, mostly commissioned works, for colleagues. After the merger of the DEFA Symphony Orchestra and the Radio Berlin Dance Orchestra to form the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg in 1993, Gisbert Näther became its member.

Gisbert Näther has composed for traditional ensembles, but also for unusual, sometimes exotic and intentionally grotesque instrumentation - in addition to a piece for 12 bassoons - Rondo fagottissimo z. For example, a concert for three bassoons, contrabassoon and orchestra. In addition, his compositional repertoire contains numerous pieces for pedagogical use. Starting in 1992, he created works for large orchestra - with and without soloists, premiered among others by the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Berliner Symphoniker and the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg. Several compositions for wind orchestra received awards. Throughout Germany, Gisbert Näther became known for his scenic and semi-scenic works for children and adolescents. They have become popular collections for many family concerts and ballet performances. In 2011 two operas were premiered.
Nether's musical language, though apparently at first sight in various currents and epochs at home, which she lends to light-heartedly, follows freestyle polystylistic principles of high quality and consistency. He deliberately sets himself apart from the requirements of today's music ideology and writes similarly "modern" or "unfashionable", as did France in their own way Poulenc, Ibert or Françaix - in a phrase by Jean Françaix: music that makes you happy. At the same time, she reveals a very striking handwriting - memorable basic motifs, strict workmanship, sound painting, a colorful instrumentation, temperament and scarcity.
