He was born in Pianura, a suburb in the degraded suburbs of Naples, he could take a wrong path, he became instead a dancer at La Scala and now he dances with Roberto Bolle, as first dancer in 'La dame aux camelias', in the setting up of the Royal Theater Copenhagen which inaugurated the Milanese theater season.
Gioacchino Starace, Neapolitan doc, born in 1994 is, like Bolle, an atypical dancer, tall and with a muscular physique.
"In the Lady of the Camellias - tells the ANSA - Bolle wanted me as Gaston the friend of Armand, and I am excited and grateful for this role". The ethical de la Scala had wanted it with him also in the show 'Roberto Bolle and Friends'.
A graduate of the Institute for Tourism, Gioacchino in Naples studied modern dance. "I decided to do a dance competition in Spoleto - says the dancer - in the jury there was the then director of the Opera of Rome, Paola Iorio, who saw in me potential as a classical dancer, so in 2011 thanks to a bag I entered the classical theater school of the theater of Rome ". "The scholarship for merit and income - he adds - allowed me to attend school for the next four years, my parents (my father electrician and my mother a housewife) could never have kept me away from home and at an expensive school" . "They were tiring years - he continues - because normally we get closer to classical dance starting from 9-10 years. I started at 16 and I had to make up for lost time and years of exercise". "He helped me - he says - a great will power and the awareness of being further behind the others and therefore having to work more, without sparing myself. I worked, and I still work today on my gaps with dedication and deep humility ".
"Over time I have understood - he adds - that this was what I wanted to do in life and therefore hours and hours of exercise at the bar did not weigh me too much".
In 2015, Gioacchino Starace graduated from the Rome Opera House school and began auditions. "The first made in Dresden, Zurich and Lausanne did not go well - he recalls - and I was afraid of seeing my dream fail, but perhaps they simply weren't suitable places for me". "La Scala audition, on the other hand, was a success and for two years my life in Milan started at 10 am with an hour and a half of lecture and exercise, then the rehearsals for the show began. in the evening and end at 5 pm, if there is a new opera at stake, we continue to dance. Finally at 9 pm we go on stage ". A hard but full and satisfying life: "I still have a lot to learn - comments Gioacchino Starace - because to become a complete dancer you need a lot of training, ability, stage presence and charisma. The technique is fundamental but without soul you do not go anywhere. The dancer before being an athlete must be an artist. " To his city, from which he still had to leave as a boy, Gioacchino is very fond of: "life there is not easy and does not offer great opportunities but as soon as I can I return".
